Chemistry branch of Beijing alumni association of Lanzhou University established

On March 31, the inauguration ceremony of the chemistry branch of Beijing alumni association of Lanzhou University, was held in Beijing. Representatives attending the ceremony included Prof. Yan Chunhua, president of Lanzhou University, Fan Baojun, vice president of Lanzhou University, and Prof. Tu Yongqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In addition, participants from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the State Key Laboratory of Functional Organic Molecular Chemistry, the School of Nuclear Science and Technology, the Office of Alumni Association and more than three hundred alumni from Beijing attended the inaugural meeting.

Jiang Yiman, president of the Beijing Alumni Association of Lanzhou University and a 254th chemistry alumnus, delivered a speech. She congratulated the establishment of the Beijing Alumni Association Chemical Branch and recalled her time with faculty members and students back in Lanzhou. She said that the story of the “One Academician with six academicians” in the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Lanzhou University was very impressive and inspiring. She thanked the alumni for their contributions to the development of chemistry in Lanzhou University. She hopes that chemists will continue the tradition of hard working and develop better in the future.

Prof. Yan Chunhua congratulated the establishment of the Beijing Alumni Association Chemical Branch. From the following aspects, he and alumni reviewed the development of the school including comprehensive school reform, "double first-class" development, talent training and  advancement, serving national and local needs, and improving infrasturcutre, etc. He emphasized the invaluable role in the development of the university. Lanzhou University will continue to place the work of alumni as a priority, strengthen the integration of alumni resources, support the development of alumni organizations around the country, and strive to serve the alumni. Prof. Yan hopes that all chemists uphold the true meaning of science, remain true to our original aspiration, and work tirelessly to realize a better tomorrow for the chemistry of Lanzhou University.

Prof. Tu Yongqiang ,the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, (1978 chemistry alumnus) recalled his experience in education, teaching and research at Lanzhou University and talked about the low-key and simple quality of Lanzhou University. He expressed his sincere hope that the next generation of students will continue to carry on with the spirit of "self-improvement and uniqueness" of Lanzhou University.
