In order to implement the spirit of Party history study and enrich Party history learning forms, from May 13 to 14, 39 teachers and students from the Party Branch of Organic Chemistry Teaching staff, the Party Branch of Administrative staff, the Second Party Branch of Undergraduates and the Party Branch of Chemistry Center went to Tianshui to carry out Party history study activities. By doing this, teachers and students can learn from the century-old history of the CPC, draw strength for moving forward, stick to our dutiesand responsibilities, and fulfill the original aspiration and mission.

On May 13, teachers and students went to the Red Army Long March Memorial Hall in Gangu County to carry out educational activities on the theme of Party history.Gangu County is the place where the red army passed five times during the Long March, and it has many items left by the red army. In the memorial hall houses a spinning wheel, a earthen jar and a saddle - items left by the revolutionaries, travel through time and space and gradually present a magnificent history of struggle, which deeply infected every Party member present. After that, all members went to the cemetery of martyrs in Gangu County to offer flowers to the nine heroes who were buried here to express their high respect and deep memory for the revolutionary martyrs.  

With the theme of "Organic Chemistry in Life", Yuan Chengshan, Associate Professor of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, gave a wonderful lecture on chemistry to students. He started from chemical celebritiesthatare familiar to students and introduced the wide application of chemistry in human health, daily life and national defense as well as military affairs. Finally, with the deeds of Hou Debang and Tu Youyou, he encouraged students to study hard, be determined to grow into talents, so as to serve the motherland and one’s hometown. The lecture was meaningful and humorous, which won bursts of applause from the students present.

On May 14, teachers and students went to Zhongtan Central School of Tianshui  to carry out the activity of popular science on chemistry in campus. A total of 559 primary school students participated in the activity.

Teachers of the ChemistryCenter elaborately made postcards with the characteristics of Lanzhou University, and guided the students to operate interesting chemical experiments such as magical purple cabbage, milk rainbow, tea-ink color change, elephant toothpaste, fruit battery, discoloration rock music and so on. Every child who participated in the activity and completed a popular science experiment can stamp a seal on the postcard. After completing six experiments and collecting all the seals, the child can get a postcard with "little achievement". In pairs of innocent eyes twinkled "little stars" which showed children’s desire to explore the mysteries of science.

At the end of the activity, all the participants gained a lot. The following are what they say:

By learning the Party history, practicing the original aspirations, and doing practical things, we helped to broadenthe students’ scientific horizons, deeply planted the scientific dreams in their mind, and strengthened their aspirations to make contributions to build a powerful nation. And it is a beneficial exploration for our college to innovate the education form and effect of Party history learning.
