On June 25-27, the "Second Northwestern Division of College Students' Innovative Design Competition in Chemistry Experiments " was held in the West District of the Chengguan Campus of Lanzhou University. 216 undergraduates and more than 100 teachers from 42 universities in Shanxi Province, Shaanxi Province, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region participated in the competition.

A total of 72 teams participated in this year's Northwestern Division of College Students' Innovative Design Competition in Chemistry Experiments, Including 45 newly designed experimental works, 18 innovatively designed works based on existing experiments, and 9 experimental works designed for popularizing science. The competition adheres to the principle of "openness, fairness and justice", and 16 professors from 14 universities outside the Northwest Division are invited to form an expert group to evaluate the competition works. The team grouping, judging expert grouping and the order of defense are determined by drawing lots, and all reviews and defenses are conducted anonymously. In response to the prevention and control of the epidemic, the competition adopted a combination of online and offline defenses. 46 teams responded on-site and 26 teams responded online. The review and defense of the works are divided into 4 groups, and the top 4 teams in each group will enter the second round of defense. After two rounds of defenses, 13 first prizes, 14 second prizes, and 24 third prizes were finally selected. Eleven teams were selected to participate in the national finals of the "Second National College Students' Innovative Design Competition in Chemistry Experiments " organized by Qingdao University of Science and Technology in August.
