From August 21st to 24th, the finals of the 3rd National Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Innovation Design Competition of "WeRui Cup" sponsored by the Chinese Chemical Society and the Joint Association of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education were held at Xiamen University. Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic , the finals were conducted by online review by experts and online defense by participating schools. After two days of fierce competition, the team of "Zhu Guang Dan Mi" (instructors: Shen Yongwen, Hu Xiuqin) composed of 2019 chemistry students Ma Kexing, Yang Junjie, and Chen Baicheng finally won the special prize. This is the third consecutive year that Lanzhou University students have won the special prize in this competition. 

The entries of the " Zhu Guang Dan Mi " team "Photocatalytic [2+2+1] Tandem Reaction to Construct Dihydroimidazole Compounds and Its Mechanism Exploration" came from the work of Professor Xu Pengfei's research group. With the strong support of Professor Xu Pengfei's team, the three undergraduates have transformed the series of scientific research achievements developed by the research group into experimental projects suitable for undergraduate experimental teaching after more than a hundred experiments optimization and improvement. 

Previously, in the Northwest Division Competition of the 3rd National Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Innovation Design Competition of "Wei Rui-Leyan Cup" held from June 24th to 26th, Lanzhou University's " Jing Yi You Man " team (member: Xu Xinxin) , Ma Mengmeng, Wang Ran, instructors: Ye Weichun, Zeng Zhicong) and the team " Zhu Guang Dan Mi " both won the first prize in the Northwest Division Competition. The entry of the "Jing Yi You Man" team "Raman Spectrometer Construction and Analysis and Detection Application of Flexible SERS Substrate" comes from the scientific research work of Associate Professor Ye Weichun and Zeng Zhicong's research group.

This competition has been highly valued and strongly supported by the Teacher Teaching Development Center of Lanzhou University and the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. In order to ensure the smooth progress of this online competition, the instructor team prepared carefully, conducted regular guidance and discussions, prepared the equipment and venues required for the competition in advance, and organized students to simulate multiple defenses. The contestants united and cooperated, made full use of their spare time, overcame unfavorable factors such as high temperature weather and the impact of the summer epidemic, and devoted themselves to preparing for the competition. They have fully demonstrated the solid professional basic knowledge, strong practical skills and excellent comprehensive quality of the students majoring in chemistry in our school. 

The two winning experimental projects of this competition will be offered in the "Comprehensive Chemistry Experiment" course of chemistry students in the fall semester of 2022. Participating in this competition is of great significance for deepening the education and teaching reform of chemistry major in our school, improving the teaching quality of professional core courses, and cultivating top-notch innovative talents in chemistry.
