The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering went to brother universities to carry out research and exchanges on undergraduate talent training

From February 17th to 22nd, 2023, Liang Yongmin, the dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Hui Xinping, the vice dean, led a delegation of 11 people, including Shen Yongwen, the director of the University Chemical Laboratory Teaching Center, Chen Hongli, the main lecturer of Analytical Chemistry, Li Rong, the head of the Physical Chemistry course group, Fang Jian, the main lecturer, Chang Yanlong, the head of the Chemical Engineering course group, Yang Honglei, the main lecturer of Chemical Design, Yu Guiqin, the main lecturer of Chemical Principles, and Fan Yanxin, the teaching secretary, to visit and exchange ideas with eight "Double First-Class" universities. They conducted in-depth research and communication on undergraduate talent training programs, first-class majors and course construction, laboratory construction, engineering education accreditation, top-tier and strong foundation plan student training, quality assurance systems, etc.

On the morning of February 17th, the research team visited the College of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University. Zhao Jinduo, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University, and Han You, Fan Xiaobin, and Zhang Jinli, an engineering education accreditation expert, attended the research symposium. The two sides exchanged views on education and teaching, discipline development, and faculty team building. They focused on discussing the talent training program for chemical engineering and technology majors, engineering education accreditation, and industry-education integration. After the symposium, they visited the Chemical Engineering Experimental Center of Tianjin University and exchanged further on the construction of experimental teaching platforms.

In the afternoon of February 17th, the engineering research team visited the Tianjin North Chemical Experimental Equipment Co., Ltd. to learn and exchange with Liu Zhenhua, the chief engineer, about the maintenance of chemical experimental equipment. After the symposium, they visited the equipment production factory to understand the production process of the chemical experimental equipment purchased by our College through tender procurement.

In the afternoon of February 17th, the science research team visited the College of Chemistry at Nankai University. Zhang Shoumin, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry at Nankai University, Wang Baiquan, Guo Dongsheng, Li Yijun, the assistant to the dean, and other officials attended the symposium. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the training of chemistry-related professionals, the setting of core courses for majors, interdisciplinary talent training, undergraduate research training, top-tier and strong foundation plan student training, and teaching quality assurance. They also discussed specific problems in the course teaching process.

On February 18th, the science research team visited the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University to conduct research exchanges. Liu Jianbo, the deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of Peking University, the vice dean of the Yuanpei College, Pei Jian, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Chen Xing, the dean, Wang Yingxia, the vice dean, and Li Weihong, the assistant to the dean, attended the symposium. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on training programs and educational objectives, the organic integration of general education and professional education, interdisciplinary talent training, course integration, course system and content reform, and other issues.

On February 18, the engineering research team visited the College of Chemical Engineering at Dalian University of Technology to conduct research. Vice Dean Ye Junwei, Deputy Director of Chemical Engineering Department and Director of Petroleum Chemical Engineering Research Room Lu Jinming, Director of Basic Chemistry Experiment Center Jiang Wenfeng, and Director of Chemical Engineering Principles Teaching and Research Room Xiao Wu participated in the discussion. The two sides focused on topics such as engineering education certification, intelligent chemical engineering, and training programs for chemical engineering and technology majors. Vice Dean Ye Junwei reported on the establishment of mechanisms, student training, curriculum design, laboratory system, and quality assurance. Xiao Wu used the course "Chemical Engineering Principles" as an example to provide specific guidance on developing teaching outlines, assessing the process, and achieving course objectives.

On February 20, the engineering research team conducted a special investigation into the Energy Chemical Engineering major at the College of Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University. In the morning, Wang Xiangxu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University, Chen Liyu, Chen Huiyong, and Hao Qingqing from the Chemical Engineering Department participated in the discussion. The research team visited professional laboratories and chemical engineering principle laboratories and discussed laboratory certification related details. Later, they shared experiences and exchanged ideas on guiding chemical engineering design competitions. In the afternoon, Vice Dean Xu Kangzhen, Director Wu Feng, and Director Zhao Binxia from the Chemical Engineering Department participated in the discussion, focusing on the construction of first-class majors and engineering education certification.

On February 20, the science research team visited the Chemistry Department of Fudan University for research. Xu Hualong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry and Materials at Fudan University, Ma Weichun, Director Zhou Mingfei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Liu Yongmei, and Deputy Director Li Qiaowei participated in the discussion. The two sides introduced their experiences and future development goals in designing diverse development paths, the honors course system, the strong foundation plan, undergraduate scientific research training, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and quality assurance. They also held discussions on these topics.

On February 21, the science research team visited the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Nanjing University to exchange ideas. Zhu Chengjian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Nanjing University, Vice Dean Yu Shouyun, Director Zhang Wenwei of the National Chemistry Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and Chairman of the Teaching Committee Hou Wenhua participated in the discussion. Nanjing University introduced their reforms in undergraduate chemistry education, chemistry experimental teaching, and physical chemistry curriculum and textbook construction. The two sides held discussions on topics such as undergraduate chemistry education programs, top talent plans, and strong foundation plans for student training, professional curriculum design, teaching content and learning hours, and credits.

On February 22, the science research team visited the College of Chemistry at Sichuan University. Xie Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry at Sichuan University, Deputy Secretary Xiao Bo, Vice Dean Zheng Chengbin participated in the discussion. The two sides held in-depth discussions on teaching reforms and curriculum construction in undergraduate education in the new era, exploring the professional characteristics of applied chemistry, teaching quality management, practical teaching, and the training mode of top talent plans and strong foundation plans.

Through research and communication, the college gained a deeper understanding of the professional development and talent cultivation of sister colleges in recent years, and learned advanced experiences in undergraduate talent cultivation models, curriculum system construction, elite plan and foundation plan student training, providing new ideas and directions for the revision of the college's talent cultivation program, curriculum system and teaching content reform, and the cultivation of top innovative talents. This research and communication activity is of great significance for revising the undergraduate talent cultivation program and improving the quality of talent cultivation, and further promotes the cooperation and exchange between the college and sister colleges. Based on the research and communication, the college will further explore professional characteristics, innovate educational and teaching concepts, focus on improving the quality of undergraduate talent cultivation and students' comprehensive abilities, and complete the revision of the undergraduate talent cultivation program with high quality.
